In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the opening of Southern Utah Museum of Art and the entire Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, the museum will present an exciting new exhibition that showcases our permanent collection. Treasures from the vault, including works that have never been publicly shown, will take center stage alongside gifts received and acquisitions made over the past decade. From Marc Chagall to Maynard Dixon, Japanese woodblock prints to contemporary photography, this exhibition celebrates the excellence and diversity of the artworks held by SUMA, as well as the key figures who have supported the growth of our collection.

The Jimmie Jones Olfactory Project

Beloved Utah artist Jimmie Jones, whose vision and generosity laid the foundation for what would become SUMA, will be honored with specially commissioned olfactory artworks designed by scent-artist Cathleen Faubert that activate some of Jimmie’s most iconic paintings. Reimagining the essential places Jimmie painted through smell, Faubert will create signature scent pieces connected to Cedar Mountain, the Grand Canyon, Rockville Mesa, and Zion National Park, designing an immersive, multisensory experience that celebrates the legacy of Jimmie and the landscapes of our region.

This exhibition was curated by Dr. Rebecca Bloom, Director of Curatorial Affairs and made possible through generous funding by Cedar City RAP, Utah Division of Arts and Museums, Iron County, and the Grace A. Tanner Center for Human Values.

SUMA’s summer programming will also recognize the founding of The Beverley Center and the 65th anniversary of Utah Shakespeare Festival in two special exhibitions and a series of special events.
