International Cinema @ SUU screening

(2026) – Mexico, U.S. – Documentary

Language: Spanish (10 minutes)

Synopsis: We are thrilled to present SUU Filmmaking BFA student Paola Chavez’ Spanish-language short film ESTOY AQUÍ (I AM HERE), a project that explores mujeres buscadoras, Mexican and Mexican American women in search of loved ones lost to violence and abuse. Guardians of family and community memory, mujeres buscadoras refuse to give up hope and work tirelessly to keep the stories of disappeared and murdered family members alive. Chavez’ touches on themes of family bonds and tenderness in resistance to displacement, trauma, and ongoing violence across borders, which also speak to the feature-length film Futur Drei, this evening’s second selection.

(2020) – Germany – Drama

Language: German, Farsi (89 minutes)

Synopsis: Futur Drei (No Hard Feelings), by emerging, but already prolific German Iranian filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter, Faraz Shariat. Futur Drei tells the story of Parvis, a young, queer man whose family was exiled from Iran and fled to Germany. Growing up with certain freedoms in the Berlin Republic of the early 2000s, Parvis’ life takes a crucial turn when he falls in love with recent arrival, Iranian refugee Amon, while forming an enduring bond with Amon’s sister, Banafshe. The three quickly form their own sense of fellowship and future, as Parvis helps the siblings adjust to their new life in Germany. This feel-good movie has an ending that you will not soon forget! As we will view and discuss at the screening, Futur Drei embodies SUU’s commitment to a community of leaders and thinkers who are people-centered, purpose-driven, and place-empowered.
