Synopsis: La memoria infinita (The Eternal Memory, 2023), directed by Maite Alberdi, is an intimate and moving documentary that follows the life of actress and former minister Paulina Urrutia and her husband, journalist and cultural chronicler Augusto Góngora, during the years in which he lives with advancing Alzheimer’s disease. The film blends scenes from their daily life—tender, frustrating, and sometimes gently humorous—with glimpses of Augusto’s past work documenting human rights abuses during the Pinochet dictatorship. As his memory fades, Alberdi captures how Paulina becomes his anchor, helping him hold onto pieces of his identity while also confronting the emotional weight of watching the person she loves slowly disappear. Rather than focusing solely on illness, the film becomes a reflection on what it means to remember, what it means to forget, and how love can create a space where even the most fragile forms of connection still matter.
