"I was born in Cedar City, Utah in 1996 and grew up in Beaver, where there were many ways to enjoy being outside. While I rode horses as a kid, I was introduced to the joy and freedom of hiking and climbing at a summer camp for blind children when I was eight. These continued with more outdoor experiences in similar camps, Boy Scouts, and extracurricular activities, such as cross-country during high school. After high school, I attended training through the Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, where I developed the skills necessary for independent living and travel. Since then, I’ve served a mission for my church and studied at Southern Utah University, where many excellent mentors have helped me to expand beyond my limits, learn how to advocate for myself and others, and more fully inhabit the spaces I move through. These experiences have reshaped how I understand space—not as something big and unfamiliar, but as something that is shared and beautiful."
